It takes a lot of training to be ready to answer the many types of emergency calls we receive. Did you know that, during the month of March, that in addition to various work bee’s, meetings, and responding to multiple calls, your SLVFD was also training very hard?
At the state training level, 8 members attended the NYS Ice Rescue Technician course held at North Country Community College and the Ampersand Bay Boat Launch. 4 members have been attending twice weekly classes completing the Fire Officer 1 modular series at North Country Community College, and an additional member is traveling twice weekly to Burke NY to complete the Interior Firefighting Operations course.
On Thursday March 13th SLVFD members conducted department level ice rescue training at the Ampersand Bay boat launch.
On Friday March 14th 3 SLVFD officers attended a table top exercise for a simulated active shooter incident. This exercise was held at the Harrietstown town hall in conjunction with North Country Community College, the New York State Department of Homeland Security, The New York State Police, the Village of Saranac Lake Police and Adirondack Medical Center.
On Tuesday March 25th SLVFD members conducted air boat training at the Lake Placid boat launch with members of the Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department.
On Thursday March 27th SLVFD members conducted ladder truck training at the 14 Kiwassa Road high rise.
This is what a typical month for an SLVFD member looks like. It’s a lot of work and training, but we love it and would not have it any other way. It is our honor and our passion to keep our community safe.
